Water damage is costly to repair. The quicker you are able to spot a leak, the better it will be for your wallet. That’s why you need to know the signs of a water leak. This is especially true for seasons where water damage is less common – seasons with less rain or cold temperatures. Check out these three signs below.

Water Stains

A water stain is almost a sure sign of a water leak. At this point, the water damage is probably pretty severe. Stains in the walls, ceilings, or floors mean that a pipe most likely burst and water is leaking out. Once you see a water stain, you need to call a restoration company immediately to assess the damage. The company will be able to get into the walls and repair the burst pipe as well as restore the water-damaged property. It’s not advised you try to take care of this damage yourself.

Mold Damage

Since mold grows in places that are warm and damp, there will likely be mold growing in places where there is water damage. Places like bathrooms and kitchens will be where you’ll spot it first. Mold can grow around your sink or on the floor of your shower. If water is leaking out into your floor or into cabinets, the dampness will become a breeding ground of mold spores. If you spot the mold quickly enough, you might be able to clean it yourself. But get the leak taken care of as quickly as possible to prevent a recurrence of the mold.

Dripping Faucets

This is the most noticeable form of a leak. When faucets don’t turn all the way off or showerheads still drip long after you’ve finished showering, you probably have a leaking pipe. Call a restoration company to either repair or replace the leaking pipe. If a faucet is dripping, you might notice a higher water bill as well. Keep track of your payments each month and use any discrepancies to inspect your home as well.
